BCCI under probe by tax authorities

The world’s richest Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is under investigation for violating the country’s foreign exchange laws, Sports Minister Ajay Maken said on Tuesday.The government was looking into alleged violations of the Foreign Exchange Management Act amounting to Rs 1,077 crore ($206.7 million), Maken told the Parliament. He said the investigation covered the ownership of franchises and fund transfers without the permission of India’s central bank and income tax department during the 2009 Indian Premier League held in South Africa.
The BCCI moved the 2009 edition of the Twenty20 tournament out of India due to lack of security cover during general elections in the country. 964 crore is the BCCI’C 2009-10 year’s profit.Total 413 crore is the taxeble payment but BCCI is paid only 41 crore. BCCI’s chief administrative officer Ratnakar Shetty said the body had yet to receive any official communication about the investigation

Italian naval guards remanded to judicial custody

A Kollam court on Monday remanded two Italian Naval guards — arrested and charged with murder over the killing of two Indian fishermen — to judicial custody till March 5.
Two Italian marines were produced before judicial magistrate in Kerala at his residence as the court was closed due to due to Mahashivratri.
The arrest of Latore Massimiliano and Salvatore Girone, yesterday, marked the climax of four days of hard negotiations between Indian and Italian sides. The two were arrested by Kollam police from Kochi and registered a murder case under section 302 of IPC against the two men.

India’s anti-terror intelligence hub

The Indian government Monday said it would set up on March 1 a powerful anti-terror agency that will integrate and analyse inputs on terror threats in India and will have legal authority to make arrests and conduct search operations.
The order comes after the the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) Jan 11 approved the creation of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), an agency to maintain data of terror modules, terrorists, their associates, friends, families and supporters.
